There are various types of meditations and you can practice these two meditations as the start.
1) Mindfulness’ of breath in and breath out – In this type we do the breathing mindfully. We pay attention to the breath in and breathe out. Concern and attention only relate to the inhale of air and exhale air from nose. When it is a long breathe, the person understand `I breathe in long;' and `I breathe out long'. When it is a short breathe, the person understand `I breathe in short;' and `I breathe out short’. Then the person pays attention to the changes of whole body while breathing, there he understand and experience the whole body while inhale and exhale. Next step is tranquillizing the body-formation, which is calmly observe the breathing process. While training this, the person understand `tranquillizing the body-formation, I shall breathe in' and `tranquillizing the body-formation, I shall breathe out'. After obtaining this understanding and experience the person can breathe with insight the arising and cessation of the breath – inhale and exhale.
2) Discern the body in to separate parts and organs - "head hair, body hair, nails, teeth, skin, flesh, sinews, bones, bone marrow, kidneys, heart, liver, membrane, spleen, lungs, intestines, mesentery, gorge, feces, brain, bile, phlegm, pus, blood, sweat, fat, tears, grease, salvia, snot, synovia, urine" like open a bag with verities of grains. This can be done for own body and for others. The intention is to see the body by its composition and elements and it helps to understand the body is just a bag of elements and there is no soul in it. And you can pay attention to arising and cessation of your feelings and thoughts in your day today life, it helps you to understand that the mind also does not have a soul.
